Counselling Services (IAPT)

IAPT stands for Improving Access to Psychological Therapy and is an NHS service designed to offer short-term psychological therapies to people suffering from anxiety, depression and stress. IAPT may also work with people who suffer from panic disorder, simple phobia, OCD or PTSD. The Let’s Talk IAPT is part of the government’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) initiative. Treatments can be group or individual, and can be face to face, telephone or online.

Mind in Enfield and Barnet

What is it?

Mind in Barnet counselling service is an IAPT compliant service and is offered to adults experiencing common mental health symptoms such as mild to moderate depression and anxiety.

It offers individual 1:1 sessions for an average of 8 weeks. Your first contact will be an assessment and following this your sessions will start within 2-4 weeks.

 

How can it help me?

You may find it helpful to work with a Counsellor to find ways of understanding what you are experiencing. Mind offer psychological support for mild-moderate depression, mild anxiety, low self-esteem, mood changes, and loss. You may be struggling with a specific problem, or you may not have any idea what the problem is, but just have a sense that you are not feeling right. Coming to counselling may help you to gain better awareness and understanding of your current thoughts and feelings.

Summer 2023 Services 

Mind in Enfield and Barnet have recently released their summer schedule of workshops, courses and support groups. Ranging from Singing Skills to Gratitude for Wellbeing, the courses offer a variety of ways to improve your mental health and wellbeing.

IAPT Let's Talk - Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust

What is it? 

Let’s Talk IAPT is a team of trained therapists, counsellors and psychologists offering free and confidential talking therapies to people aged 16 and over. They can help with a range of common mental health problems including low mood and anxiety disorders, by offering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Guided Self Help, Counselling and/or a range of wellbeing workshops in the community.

How can it help me?

During the therapy sessions you can take the time to talk and understand the difficulties you are going through, identify and change unhelpful behaviours or thoughts, identify your strengths, and set some goals to work towards.

Let's Talk can offer you therapy over the phone, face-to-face or online. They offer assessments and therapy in English as well as some other languages, and interpreters are available on request.

 

The service is available for all Barnet residents from the age of 16 registered with a Barnet GP who are experiencing symptoms of the following conditions:

  • agoraphobia

  • depression

  • generalised anxiety

  • health anxiety

  • low mood

  • obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • post-traumatic stress disorder

  • panic

  • sleeping problems

  • social anxiety

  • specific phobias

  • stress

How do I access the service?

There are a number of ways to access the service, through GPs, nurses and other health and social care professionals, through the Wellbeing Hub or you can refer yourself directly by visiting http://www.lets-talk-iapt.nhs.uk/self-referral/. Please note, if you are referring someone else, they must be aware of and in agreement with the referral. First assessments will be carried out by telephone unless there is a specific request for a face to face appointment.

New Gateway Citizens

New Citizens Gateway provide a talking therapy service and group activities, working directly with refugee and asylum seekers, whose mental health is impacting their everyday life.

What is it?

These are based on IAPT principles and delivered within community settings by qualified therapists in Farsi, Arabic, and Pashtu. The service is for adults in exile whose first language is not English and who are experiencing common mental health symptoms such as mild to moderate depression and anxiety provided by New Citizens Gateway.

 

How can it help me?

In addition to one to one talking therapy, there are numerous group activities to attend, including group therapy sessions, yoga, art therapy, drama therapy, mindfulness and photography.

How do I access the service?

There are a number of ways to access the service, Through the Wellbeing Hub, our navigators will take you through an emotional health check and then connect you to this service.
