Barnet Suicide Prevention Campaign

As part of the multi-agency Barnet Suicide Prevention Partnership, we are launching the first phase of a campaign focused on preventing mental ill-health and suicidality amongst men. 

 

In the UK, suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age 49. Men are 3-4 times more likely to take their own life compared to women. More attempt or contemplate suicide every year. Many are afraid to speak openly about how they feel and subsequently suffer alone. 

 

Encouraging men to talk about their mental health, seek help and where possible to support other men in their lives is at the heart of our Suicide Prevention Strategy. 

 

The campaign will focus on three areas:

• Asking residents to download the 'Stay Alive' suicide prevention app. It is full of information and tools for those in crisis. It's designed for individuals with suicidal thoughts or if you are concerned about someone

• Training for those in male-dominated industries and encouraging the public to do the Zero Suicide Alliance Training 

• Developing London's first Andy's Man Club support group in Barnet.  A space where men can speak openly about their mental health in a judgment-free, non-clinical confidential environment. For more information and to join email info@andysmanclub.co.uk

 

From October 2022, we have delivered several outreach and engagement events, both face to face and virtually to male dominated workforces; reaching over 180 people. We will be providing further details here and on our social media.
